That’s what’s in! Wasn’t the best baseball I’ve seen but whatever gets the job done. I still find it hilarious that Taijuan always seems to get insane run support whenever he starts. Monday was interesting to put it lightly. WHen we went up 8-1 I was like ‘Oh wow we really needed a laugher. Glad it’s today!’ And then the bullpen engages 2020 mode and almost blows it thank god for Brian O’Nora’s throat because if that ball missed him we lose that game. Alvarado has to be better come playoff time. I’m hoping this is just a lull and he’ll go back to the way he was last year in October. Same with Kimbrel. Somehow some way we managed to escape walking four batters in the last two innings with only a two run cushion. Certainly no one thought we were losing right? The offense continues to be the positive, mashing five the whole series while getting shut out in one game. So technically we hit five dingers in two games which is even more impressive. Turner continues to be the guy we saw in the WBC and not the lifeless feeble approaches he had in the first few months. Sadly, I think Michael Lorenzen is broken. Ever since the no-no he threw, he’s given up 6, 4, 3, and 6. 19 earned runs in four starts is bad even by high school standards. If my varsity coach saw that, I’d be carrying the ball bucket and sitting on the bench. This guy is better. I propose we move him to the pen and use him in case anyone (ahem Nola) blows up in the playoffs. Also when your hits come from Marsh, Cave and Sosa (no disrespect) it’s kinda sad considering how hot we’ve been. A bright side kinda is that Covey managed to throw all but 6 of his pitches for strikes so yay? Thursday was Wheeler being Wheeler. 6 innings, one hit, no runs, 7 k’s and only two walks. I did notice he was getting into a lot of high counts, just something to keep an eye on. Schwarber was your typical leadoff man: homer, walk and a strikeout along with a base hit. JT is hilarious when it comes to road and home splits. He’s hitting .201 at home and .309 on the road. It’s not even like it’s close! I want to put Stubbs in but I don’t know if I trust him in a playoff setting. I guess either JT needs to get his act together at home or Stubbsy is gonna get some big game action. In terms of the wild card, the Cubs are like that itch that never goes away even if you itch it so hard for so long so please please just take two of three from the Fish.
