Broad Street BoomSticks: a Phillies Baseball Fan Blog

8/11/23

Sorry for the lack of blogs to the nine people reading this. I’ve been on vacation for a few weeks and haven’t had the chance to post. Man what a series! Michael Lorenzen throws a no hitter, Nick Castellanos is hotter than the sun, and Trea is back. First game, Wheeler looked pretty good. He didn’t have the usual zip on his fastball but it’s the Nationals so you don’t need to pitch lights out. 7 innings is fine, he got the win, and the offense (Jake Cave, anybody?) gave him a cushion. They actually hit .500 RISP, which is a good start and only stranded four. Game 2 was a little worse (screw you Joey Meneses). On the bright side, Bryce is heating back up and the ovation we gave Trea seems to have worked! Game 3, well let’s just say Michael Lorenzen pitched pretty good. He only threw a no hitter. I was flying back to Philly that night and was watching it with these two other people who were Phils fans too. The guy next to me was like “I think he has a no hitter” and I immediately shushed him, per baseball superstition. Seeing everyone’s reaction to that plus Weston Wilson going yard his first at bat was beyond awesome and Casty homered again! Game 4 was solid. Just a good win. JT going yard is huge because he’s been struggling and he needed to see the ball go over the fence to get the confidence back. Nola was meh. 105 pitches through five innings is not great but the whole staff K’d 13, with Marte striking out the side which he needed after the Royals game where he blew the save. Hopefully we can continue to stack series wins!
