Second blog post, second series victory. Now I wish I started this earlier! I don’t care if it’s the Triple A’s. They swept a series. Would you rather them lose it? I want to start with June Schwarber. What gets into this guy? It’s like clockwork. Every June this guy just rakes. He’s hitting .254 so far with seven homers, and three in his last seven days. That is insane. Yesterday’s game was a good old fashioned scrappy win. Things got dicey in the 8th, but Junior Marte and Jose Alvarado are pitching lights out. Wheeler didn’t have his best stuff, but you don’t need to have your best stuff against Oakland-like teams. Six innings is not ideal but again I won’t complain. The bullpen is 7th in the NL, which if you had told me that at the beginning of the year I would’ve fell out of my chair. Phillies Muse on twitter said the Phillies starting pitching ranks first in ERA, WHIP, HR/9 and BAA in June. Can every month be June? I’ve been cautiously optimistic about Walker turning it around and the start on Saturday just made me dive headfirst without a lifejacket into the pool. Eight innings! Again, I don’t care if it’s the A’s. his ERRA is 4.31, but it’s been consistently going down in June so let’s not worry. Lastly on pitching, crazy thing they win a bullpen game. How bout that? I want to give a big shout out to Christian Pache. That’s what happens when you have a speedster in the outfield. Had he missed that ball, Schwarber had zero chance of cutting that ball off and the runner would most likely reach third if not score (it was 4-1 but still). The ideal outfield for me is Marsh in center, Pache in left, and Casty in right (I know).
