Broad Street BoomSticks: a Phillies Baseball Fan Blog

6/17

Ok…let’s not panic. Everything will be ok. Trea is back today too. We lost one series to a good team. Yes we got outscored 14-5 in the last two games but it will be ok. Bohm is heating back up, which we desperately need. In June, he’s batting .280 with 4 two bags and 10 RBIs. Earlier, he was chasing pitches and reverting back into his old self, chasing pitches outside the zone, rolling over balls, and not being the slap hitter he’s been this season. But he’s looking more like 2024 Bohm. An emotional, crazy win on Friday started with the leadoff Schwarbomb, to Rafael Marchan going yard, to the bonkers 10th inning and Kerkering dirting a ball and it bouncing right to Marchan tagging the guy out. But no, of course he was safe. But Bohm knocked in the go ahead run and good ol’ Seranthony shutting the O’s down in the 11th. But then the most frustrating pitcher in the last three years, Taijuan Walker, goes out and gets shelled, getting tagged with the loss and giving up 3 runs on six hits with only 4 K’s. I’ve been screaming it for months but Spencer Turnbull is worlds better than him. And lastly, game 3 was horrid. The ump show was in full effect yesterday, with Topper getting ejected for only the 4th time as skipper of the Phillies. Plus there was a 2-2 pitch to Rutschman that should have been strike three but was called a ball and Rutschman took Wheeler deep, the first of four homers given up. It was Wheeler’s worst start since the Pirates game in mid April. Let’s hope they can rebound against the Padres (that’s what’s in) with Sanchez, Nola, and Suarez going.
