Broad Street BoomSticks: a Phillies Baseball Fan Blog

2/25

It’s back! After an offseason matching the Phillies (eerily quiet), we are back for a full year! After a crushing end to the season (what’s new), hope springs eternal down in Clearwooder. Mitts are popping, bats are cracking, and Weston Wilson is hitting jacks. I don’t care if the Yanks or Jays are playing their scrubs and we’re putting out 3/4 of our starters. You gotta hit the dudes who are inferior to you and they did just that. Yesterday was a rollercoaster, with a football-esque score (what is pitching anyway?) and today, the Phillies silenced the Yankees’ bats. Nola, Hoffman, Strahm, Alvarado, Mick Abel who was gross today, Dominguez, Soto and Austin Brice all did their job. This year, I’m really more focused on the hitting because that’s ultimately what led to our demise against the Dbacks. I need Turner to not wait until August to get going, and today wasn’t great going 0-2 with a walk but hey, it’s early. Bryce is gonna be Bryce, Castellanos cannot fall into that funk he did late last year, just waving at sliders down and away. He’s a dude that if he puts the bat on the ball, the bell will ring. Bohm has to start hitting like a 5-6 hole guy should; 20-25 homers and start driving the ball. Last year was a lot of slap doubles. Yes he had 97 RBI which is fantastic and I hope he breaks 100. He will if he starts driving the ball and getting lift on it. CBP is a hitters park and the ball goes quick when you hit it to left (see: Rhys Hoskins). Rojas and marsh just need to not suck. They’re here for their glove and if they give us .240/15 HR/ 60 RBI I will be happy. Turn the lineup over and put the ball in play, especially Rojas who has blinding speed. I’m just really looking forward to the season starting. The bell will be ringing and it will be ringing often.
